While rice, lamb, vegetables and spices form the foundation of the cuisine, dishes are generally hearty and focused on sharing. Plov (Pilaf), Manti, Lagman and Samsa are among the best-known dishes of Uzbek cuisine.
Kazakh cuisine; stands out with its meat- and dairy-based structure, bearing the traces of nomadic Turkish culture. While horse and mutton have an important place in traditional cuisine, pastries and fermented dairy products are widely consumed.
