Because it was preserved untouched for centuries, the city has survived to the present day almost intact, offering visitors the chance to observe in great detail daily life, street culture, art, and architecture in the Roman Empire two thousand years ago. This vast open-air museum, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most culturally significant attractions in Southern Italy.
