Upon arrival at our local time, we board our waiting vehicle and head to our hotel, where we check into our rooms. Accommodation is at our hotel in Lisbon.
Lisbon – Cape Roca (Cabo da Roca) – Sintra – Pena Palace – Coimbra
We begin this first morning in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital where historical and modern architecture embrace, with breakfast at our hotel; then we head to Cabo da Roca, defined as the westernmost point of Europe and the place where the continent ends, to admire the endless view of the Atlantic Ocean and take a photo break. After this pleasant stop, where we can also see the lighthouse built in 1772, one of the region’s most important symbols and still in active service, we continue to Sintra, famous for its fairytale-like atmosphere and its colorful, enchanting palaces. This town, which is at the top of the list of must-see places especially for history lovers, is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. For our visit to Palácio da Pena (Pena Palace), one of Sintra’s most iconic landmarks, which captivates visitors with its colorful architecture and romantic style and is located atop the Sintra Mountains, we board the private vehicles that will take us to the palace; with our guide’s commentary, we begin touring the palace, whose entrance is built on a hillside. (Entrance and private vehicle transfer fees are included in the price.) After listening to the palace’s fascinating stories and photographing its colorful structure from this panoramic spot overlooking Lisbon, we return to the center of Sintra town. Then we see the Sintra Royal Palace and Quinta da Regaleira, famous for its mysterious underground tunnels, spiral Initiation Well, and enchanting gardens, full of alchemical themes and mythological elements, and enjoy free time in Sintra’s historic center. After regrouping, we set off for the city of Coimbra, located on the banks of the Mondego River; one of the country’s richest cities in historical and cultural terms, and which served as Portugal’s capital between 1139 and 1260. Known for the University of Coimbra, founded in 1290, the city is also famous for hosting Portugal’s oldest university. This university has been the heart of Coimbra for centuries and still forms the center of the city’s cultural and academic life today. During our tour of the city, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013, we walk along the Mondego River toward Largo da Portagem Square. After the tour, we have the opportunity to shop on Rua Ferreira Borges, a pedestrian street whose medieval layout has remained largely unchanged since the Middle Ages. Then we visit Arco Almedina (Almedina Arch), one of the city’s most visited tourist attractions. Finally, in the city, we tour Jardim da Manga, also known as Manga Cloister, located around Santa Cruz Monastery, and then free time is given for dinner. After regrouping, we check in to our hotel. Accommodation is at our hotel in Coimbra.
Braga - Porto
After having our breakfast at the hotel, we head north of Portugal to Braga, an old city known as the “Rome of Portugal” and a religious center. In Braga, which stands out with its historical structures, religious works, and being one of the oldest cities in the country, we begin our tour as if we were inside scenes from historical films. After seeing the Arco da Nova, Braga Cathedral built in the 11th century, Braga City Hall and Gardens, we take a short coffee break on Avenida da Liberdade, one of the city’s liveliest streets. Following our short coffee break, one of the city’s most admired and famous symbols, Bom Jesus do Monte (Bom Jesus Funicular fee included in the price), becomes our next unforgettable stop. As we ascend to this area, famous for its dazzling gardens and stairways and known to almost everyone in the world, we enjoy a unique experience by using one of Europe’s oldest water-powered funiculars. At the end of our pleasant time in Braga, we head to Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal, situated on the banks of the Douro River. With its colorful houses, historic streets, and vibrant atmosphere, the city captivates its visitors. We begin exploring this city, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996, with all its beauty. In the continuation of our program, we see the Dom Luís I Bridge, designed by a student of Gustave Eiffel. Thanks to this bridge, the two banks are connected, and you will have the opportunity to cross to the other side on foot and take photos of unique views. At the end of our tour, you may spend free time in the restaurants of the Ribeira district and taste the famous Porto wines. After a lovely evening, we settle into our hotel in Porto.
Porto - Aveiro - Fatima - Nazaré - Óbidos - Lisbon
After our breakfast at our hotel in Porto, we check out of our rooms and begin a new, beautiful day. Before starting our program, in a region close to the Atlantic Ocean where we will tour the city by colorful and elegant boats decorated with patterns called Moliceiros, we head to Rossio Square. The Aveiro Cathedral, built in the 15th century and notable for its interior and exterior architecture, the Historic Train Station, and the Art Nouveau Buildings are among the places we will see in the square. After completing our Gondola tour (Moliceiro Gondola Ride is included in the price), we bid farewell to this romantic city. We then head to Fatima, where three shepherd children claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary. Christians from all over the world visit this holy site for pilgrimage. In the 12th century, during raids on the cities of the Moors living in the region, a young knight named Don Gonçalo Hermigues kidnaps Fatima, the daughter of a Muslim prince. Over time, Fatima falls in love with the knight and converts to Christianity before marrying him; her baptismal name is Ourem. Shortly afterward, Ourem falls ill and dies; his wife, deeply saddened, devotes herself to religion, builds a new monastery, and gives the settlement the name Fatima. With our guide’s explanations, we visit the Sanctuary of Fatima, the Basilica of Our Lady, the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, and the Chapel of the Saints. After our visit in Fatima, we panoramically see the Nazare coast, famous for its giant waves and known worldwide among surfers, where waves can sometimes reach up to 30 meters, and then we go to the town of Obidos, which dates back to Roman times, is surrounded by walls, and is famous for its typical whitewashed houses, balconies decorated with colorful flowers, and cobblestone streets. Also known as the “Chocolate Village,” we explore this beautiful historic place and enjoy a delightful time in a medieval atmosphere. At the end of our free time, we meet our guide again and continue on our way to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Upon our arrival in the capital in the late afternoon, after free time for dinner in the city center, we check in to our hotel.
Lisbon - Cascais - Lisbon - Izmir
After breakfast at the hotel, we head to Cascais, one of the most popular seaside towns on the Atlantic coast, known for its natural beauty and historic landmarks. We begin our tour by visiting the Cascais Castle, a reflection of the town’s history, the Marina, and Boca de Inferno (Mouth of Hell), a natural rock formation that offers an impressive view as the waves crash against the rocks. After strolling through the historic center of the town, with its narrow stone streets, houses adorned with traditional Portuguese architecture, boutique shops, and cafes, we will have some free time. After meeting again, we take our seats in the vehicle and return to the capital. In the evening, before returning to our country, we begin our tour to discover the captivating sides of Lisbon, a city where we can see all its beauty. Built on seven hills like Istanbul, the city is famous for its historic trams, yellow-toned buildings, azulejo-covered facades, and narrow streets. Our first stop in the capital is the iconic Belém Tower, one of Lisbon’s most famous symbols, representing the city’s Golden Age, the Age of Discovery, and built in the 16th century on the banks of the Tagus. After seeing the tower’s unique view, we take a break at the famous Pastéis de Belém bakery to taste one of the region’s special desserts, the pastéis de Belém (the tasting is included in the price). Then we visit the Vasco da Gama Bridge and Tower, famous as the longest bridge in Europe. After taking wonderful photos of the majesty and unique views of the Tagus River from this point, we turn toward the Monument to the Discoveries and begin our walking tour from there. Listening to our guide’s explanations about maritime history, we pass through the gardens of the Praça do Império (Imperial Square) and see the Jerónimos Monastery. Afterwards, we continue by vehicle to the Praça do Comércio area, where the Rua Augusta Arch is located, and continue our walking tour through this historic part of the city. In order, we see Lisbon Cathedral, built in 1147 and having survived major earthquakes to reach the present day as a blend of various architectural styles; then, as we proceed through the historic stone streets, we pass St. George’s Castle and Restauradores Square, where many historic buildings are located, and enjoy free time on Avenida da Liberdade, one of Lisbon’s most famous avenues. Those who wish to buy souvenirs, browse stores of famous brands, or spend time in cafes can enjoy their time to the fullest. After meeting again with our guide, we take our seats in the vehicle and transfer to the airport. After completing passport and customs procedures to board our Pegasus Airlines flight that will take us to Adnan Menderes Airport, we depart on our return journey. Upon arrival, we bid farewell until we meet again on another travel program.
