Tour Program
Izmir - Paris - Rouen - Honfleur - Le Havre
In the morning, at the designated meeting time, we meet at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal, complete our passport and baggage procedures, and then take our nonstop (direct) flight on SunExpress Airlines to Paris, where we arrive at 12:50 local time. We then take our seats in the vehicle waiting for us and head to Rouen, a city rich in historical and cultural treasures; the historic capital of Normandy, and forever remembered as the place where Joan of Arc (Jeanne d’Arc) was tried and burned. In this historic city situated on the banks of the Seine River, we will see Rouen Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen), the 14th-century Astronomical Clock (Gros Horloge), Joan of Arc Square (Place du Vieux-Marché), known as the square where Joan of Arc was burned, and Saint Ouen Abbey. After our guide’s explanations, we head to Honfleur, a charming and historic town located on the Normandy coast of France, where the Seine River flows into the English Channel. Before our photo break at its most iconic spot, Vieux Bassin, the old harbor, we will see Saint Catherine’s Church (Église Sainte-Catherine), the largest wooden church in France, and listen to our guide’s commentary. After our visit in this city, we will have free time for dinner where you can taste the local flavors. After meeting again, we take a short drive to Le Havre, an important port city in northwestern France, located at the mouth of the Seine River in the Normandy region, known as the gateway to the Atlantic Ocean and for its modern architecture. Upon arrival, we check in to our hotel where we will be staying.
Le Havre - Arromanches-les-Bains - Mont Saint-Michel - Saint-Malo
After having breakfast at our hotel, we head to the center of Le Havre to begin our city tour. Founded in 1517 by Francis I, the city was originally built as a military port and trade center. Heavily damaged during World War II and rebuilt after the war in a modern style by the famous architect Auguste Perret, the city has become an economic hub as well as home to France’s second-largest commercial port. After our visit in this city, we turn toward Arromanches-les-Bains, known for its important role during the Normandy Landings of World War II and famous for its golden beach. During the Normandy Landings, the Allied forces established a temporary artificial harbor called Mulberry Harbor on the Arromanches coast. This harbor played a vital role in providing logistical support for the Allies. At Gold Beach, which played an important role in the D-Day landings and has become a historical memorial, we listen to our guide’s explanations while viewing the structures erected in memory of the war. Then, based on the 8th-century dream of Bishop Aubert, who saw the Archangel Michael and received a message that he should build an abbey, we visit Mont-Saint-Michel, built on a rocky island rising from the sea in Normandy and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built as a fortified defensive stronghold and now one of the most popular tourist destinations, we board our local vehicles for our Mont-Saint-Michel visit and enjoy an unforgettable tour with breathtaking views and excellent photo opportunities. After the visit, we head to Saint-Malo, located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the Brittany region, known for its rich history, magnificent beaches, and medieval ramparts. Founded in the 6th century by a Welsh monk named Saint Maclou (or Malo) and named after him, this town became the center of French privateers in the 17th and 18th centuries and prospered through pirate activities targeting merchant ships. In this atmosphere steeped in history, with its narrow streets, stone houses, restaurants, and boutique shops, we enjoy free time as directed by our guide, and then check into our hotel.
Dinan - Rennes - Tours
After having breakfast at our hotel, we set off for a full day of sightseeing. Our first stop is Dinan, which preserves its historic character and offers a magnificent medieval atmosphere, with its narrow cobbled streets, timber-framed houses, and well-preserved ramparts, creating a fairytale-like setting on the banks of the Rance River. Some of the places we will see here include Saint-Sauveur Basilica (Basilique Saint-Sauveur), built in a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, Dinan Castle (Château de Dinan), part of the castle and city walls built in the 14th century, and the ramparts, one of Dinan’s most impressive features, stretching 3 km in length. At the end of our visit here, we are given free time on the famous Rue du Jerzual, lined with artisan workshops, art galleries, and boutique shops. We then gather again and head to Rennes, the administrative center of Brittany and the former capital of the duchy, where history and modern architecture coexist. After seeing the Parliament of Brittany (Parlement de Bretagne), now used as a courthouse, Saint-Pierre Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre), and the famous Place des Lices in the historic heart of Rennes, and taking our break there, we set off for the famous city of Tours, where we will stay for 2 nights, to discover another historic city that may interest you. Tours, the center of the Loire Valley, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is famous for its rich history, cultural heritage, and wine production. Known for its proximity to many castles and châteaux and having become a focal point for travelers, we begin exploring the city upon our arrival. The first sight that catches our attention will be Saint-Gatien Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with its stained-glass windows and ornate façade. Another important religious building we will encounter, dedicated to Saint Martin, is Martin de Tours. In areas such as Vieux Tours and Place Plumereau, with their timber-framed houses, narrow streets, and historic buildings that will amaze us, we will have the opportunity to take photos. After some free time during which we can taste local delicacies, including local cheese and wine, in its cafés and restaurants, we proceed to our hotel, where we will check in and stay for 2 nights.
Villandry Castle - Chenonceau Castle - Amboise - Tours
After breakfast at our hotel in Tours, we head to visit Villandry Castle (Château de Villandry), which was built in the 16th century and completed in the 17th century, reflecting French Renaissance architecture (Villandry Castle visit included in the price). With its rich and intricate gardens, water channels, and pond, we are about to enjoy a true visual feast, especially in the section adorned with the Garden of Love (Le Jardin de l’Amour), medieval plants, and medicinal herbs. The symmetrical layout of its gardens and the geometric patterns used to symbolize the castle’s prestige and the owner’s social status have been carefully preserved to this day. At the end of our visit here, we bid farewell to this beautiful castle and proceed to Chenonceau Castle (Château de Chenonceau), also known as the “Castle of Women,” built on the Cher River in the Loire Valley (Chenonceau visit included in the price). Built in 1513 by Thomas Bohier and his wife Katherine Briçonnet, though on the site of an earlier medieval fortress, this castle is regarded as a symbol of women’s strong influence. As we tour it, you will be captivated by the elegance of the arches spanning both sides of the river and the harmony of its gardens. Two names and two periods played a role in bringing this castle and its gardens to what they are today. The first is Diane de Poitiers; the mistress of King Henry II, she arranged the Gardens of Chenonceau and added the castle’s famous bridge section. The second is Catherine de’ Medici; Henry II’s wife, Catherine drove Diane away from the castle and turned Chenonceau into the residence of the Queen of France. During World War II, the castle served as the border separating the German-occupied zone and the free zone, and its architectural and artistic style is rooted in Renaissance architecture. In particular, the antique furniture and paintings in the interior will attract your attention. After exploring the castle and its gardens and completing our visit here, we turn our route to Amboise, one of the most elegant and magnificent towns in the Loire Valley. In this town, where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years, and whose silhouette on the banks of the Loire River greets us like a painting, the panoramic tour will include the following sights: the Château Royal d'Amboise (viewed from the outside), a royal castle set on the highest point of the valley and used as the residence of French kings in the 15th and 16th centuries. After seeing the castle from the outside, during the free time we will spend in the center of Amboise, you may wander through the narrow streets lined with boutiques and gourmet shops unique to the region by passing under the 15th-century Clock Tower (Tour de l'Horloge), or take a break at riverside cafés and enjoy the peaceful scenery of the Loire Valley. After tasting local delicacies at Amboise’s famous pastry shops and photographing its medieval atmosphere, we gather again to return to our hotel in Tours, carrying the history-soaked atmosphere of the region in our minds, and after a short journey we arrive back at our hotel.
Chambord Castle - Orleans - Paris
After breakfast at our hotel, we check out of our rooms and take our seats on the bus to visit Chambord Castle (Château de Chambord), which began construction in 1519 as a hunting lodge commissioned by King Francis I and continued throughout Francis’s reign, though it took centuries to complete (Chambord Castle tour included in the price). Upon arrival, we begin touring Chambord Castle, whose dazzling structure, 440 rooms, 282 fireplaces, and 77 staircases give it a truly magnificent appearance. The first and most interesting architectural feature to catch our eye will be the double-helix staircase. Thought to have been designed by Leonardo da Vinci, this staircase was built so that two people could go up and down without ever crossing paths. With its vast 5,440-hectare hunting grounds and city-sized enclosed area, this living space is considered Europe’s largest enclosed park. During World War II, it was used as a refuge to protect works of art in France. With its architectural marvel and historical significance, Chambord Castle is one of the most impressive destinations in the Loire Valley. For those interested in Renaissance art and French history, it offers an unforgettable experience. At the end of our visit, we head to Orléans, the historic and culturally rich city on the banks of the Loire River. Founded by the Gauls and located at the intersection of Roman roads, it became an important commercial center. Due to the important role of Joan of Arc in the Middle Ages, the city gained popularity among travelers. Among the places we will see are the Sainte-Croix Cathedral (Cathédrale Sainte-Croix), a magnificent example of Gothic architecture with elegant stained-glass windows depicting scenes from Joan of Arc’s life, and Joan of Arc’s House. After our visit in Orléans, we continue with a short journey to Paris, the city of fashion and art in Europe. Upon arrival in the city, after our panoramic tour with explanations from our guide, we come to Trocadéro Square, where we view the Eiffel Tower from across, take our iconic photos, and reach the Arc de Triomphe, one of Paris’s most important landmarks. We then enjoy free time on the Champs-Élysées as directed by our guide. After regrouping, we check in to our hotel for the night.
Paris - Izmir
After having breakfast at our hotel, we check out of our rooms and take our seats in the vehicle waiting for us, heading to the airport. We complete our passport and customs procedures in order to take our seats on the SunExpress Airlines flight that will take us to Adnan Menderes Airport, and then begin our return journey. Upon our arrival in Izmir at local time, we bid farewell and say goodbye, hoping to meet again in another travel program.
