Tour Program
Ankara - Lisbon
You need to be at Ankara Esenboğa Airport’s International Departures terminal 3 hours before the flight for ticketing and check-in procedures. After meeting at the Esenboğa Airport International Departures counter, we complete our baggage and ticket procedures and begin our journey to Lisbon on Pegasus Airlines’ scheduled flight. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel.
Lisbon – Cascais – Sintra - Coimbra
We start with breakfast at our hotel and then head to Cascais, one of the charming coastal towns on the Atlantic coast, known for its natural beauty and historic buildings. We begin our tour by seeing Cascais Castle, the Marina, and Boca de Inferno (Mouth of Hell), a natural rock formation that offers an impressive view as the waves crash against the rocks. At the end of our break in the historic center of the town, where narrow stone streets, houses adorned with traditional Portuguese architecture, boutique shops, and cafes are located, we take our seats back in the vehicle and head to Cabo da Roca, defined as the westernmost point of Europe, the place where the continent ends, to enjoy and photograph the endless view of the Atlantic Ocean. After this delightful stop, where we can also see the Lighthouse built in 1772 and still active, one of the most important symbols of the region, we will hear the fascinating stories of the palace in this panoramic view overlooking Lisbon and photograph its colorful structure before going to the center of Sintra town, where we will have free time in Sintra’s historic center. After regrouping, we continue to Coimbra, a city founded in 1290, located on the banks of the Mondego River and one of the country’s richest cities in terms of history and culture, known for the University of Coimbra. Upon our arrival, we will visit the New Cathedral (Sé Nova), notable for its Baroque style, the Santa Clara-a-Velha Monastery built in the Gothic style, and the city center with our guide’s explanations, after which we settle into our hotel. Unlike Lisbon, Coimbra is home to a type of fado called Fado de Coimbra. Those who wish to listen to this local music genre, which is mostly sung by men and has a deep melancholy and traditional character, can spend the evening in cafes and bars where musicians perform in black capes. Accommodation at our hotel in Coimbra.
Coimbra – Braga - Porto
After having breakfast at our hotel, we head north of Portugal to Braga, an ancient city and a religious center known as the “Rome of Portugal.” In Braga, one of the oldest cities in the country, with its historical structures and religious monuments, we begin our tour as if we were in scenes from historical films. After seeing the Arch of the New Gate, the Braga Cathedral, built in the 11th century, the Braga City Hall and Gardens, we will take a short coffee break on Avenida da Liberdade, one of the city’s liveliest avenues. At the end of our pleasant time in Braga, we travel to Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal, located on the banks of the Douro River. We begin exploring this city, which amazes visitors with its colorful houses, historic streets, and lively atmosphere. We start discovering all the beauty of this city, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. Among the places to see are Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto), from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city; São Bento Train Station, decorated with more than 20,000 blue-and-white ceramic tiles depicting Portuguese history; Clérigos Tower, one of Porto’s most famous landmarks, standing 76 meters tall; Livraria Lello, a bookshop that holds special meaning for Harry Potter fans with its spiral staircase and wooden details; and Palácio da Bolsa (the Stock Exchange Palace). In the area of the Dom Luís I Bridge, designed by a student of Gustave Eiffel and connecting the two banks of the river, you will be able to cross on foot, take photos of unique views, and at the end of our tour, spend free time at restaurants in the Ribeira district tasting Porto’s famous wines. After a beautiful evening, we settle into our hotel in Porto.
Porto – Fátima – Nazaré – Óbidos – Lisbon
On the morning of our discovery of Porto, after having breakfast at our hotel and checking out of our rooms, we begin another beautiful day before setting off on our program in a region located close to the Atlantic Ocean, where we will tour the city by Moliceiros, the boats adorned with colorful, elegant patterns. First, we visit Rossio Square, where the Aveiro Cathedral, built in the 15th century and notable for its interior and exterior architecture, the Historic Train Station, and the Art Nouveau Buildings are located. We then head to the famous Fátima, visited by Christians as a pilgrimage site because it is said that three shepherd children saw the Virgin Mary there. During raids on the cities of the local Moors in the 12th century, a young knight named Don Gonçalo Hermigues abducts the daughter of a Muslim prince named Fátima, and over time Fátima falls in love with the knight. Before marrying him, she agrees to convert to Christianity, and her baptismal name becomes Ourem. The knight gives her name to the city. Shortly afterward, Ourem falls ill and passes away, and her grieving husband dedicates himself to religion, establishing a new monastery and giving the settlement the name Fátima. Accompanied by our guide’s explanations, we visit the Santuario de Fátima (Fátima Sanctuary), the Basilica of Our Lady, and the Basilica of the Holy Trinity and the Chapel of Saints. Afterward, we enjoy a panoramic view of the Nazare coastline, famous for its giant waves, known worldwide among surfers and sometimes reaching up to 30 meters, and then head to the town of Óbidos, famous for its history dating back to Roman times, its walls, typical whitewashed houses, balconies decorated with colorful flowers, and cobbled streets. Also known as the “Chocolate Village,” we spend a delightful time in this beautiful historic place in a medieval atmosphere. At the end of our free time, we meet our guide again and continue on to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Upon arriving in the capital in the late afternoon, we go to see the famous Belém Tower, one of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, representing the city’s Golden Age, the Age of Discoveries, built in the 16th century and located on the banks of the Tagus. After the explanations here, we have free time in the city center and then check in to our hotel.
Lisbon - Ankara
After our breakfast at the hotel, in this city where we will complete our discovery of all its beauties and return to our country in the evening, we are checking out of our rooms and starting our tour to explore Lisbon and discover the sides that will leave us fascinated. Our first stop in this capital, famous for its seven hills like Istanbul, its historic trams, buildings in yellow tones, tile-covered facades (azulejos), and narrow streets, will be the Vasco da Gama Bridge and Tower, which holds the title of being Europe’s longest bridge. After taking wonderful photos from this point, where we can admire the magnificence of the Tagus River and its unique views, we head toward the Monument to the Discoveries and begin our walking tour from this point, listening to our guide’s explanations about seafaring as we pass through the Jardim da Praça do Império and see the Jerónimos Monastery. In between this enjoyable tour, we take a break at the famous Pastéis de Belém pastry shop in Portugal to taste the region’s special delicacy, pastéis (Belém tarts). At the end of our sweet break, we travel by vehicle to the Praça do Comércio area, where the Rua Augusta Arch is located, and continue our walking tour from this historic part of the city. In order, we see Lisbon Cathedral, built in 1147 and having survived major earthquakes to reach the present day, blending various architectural styles; then, moving through historic stone streets, we pass St. George’s Castle and Restauradores Square, where many historical buildings are located, and enjoy free time on Avenida da Liberdade, one of Lisbon’s most famous avenues. Those who wish to buy souvenirs, browse stores of famous brands, or spend time in the cafés can enjoy their time to the fullest. After meeting our guide again, we take our seats on the vehicle and transfer to the airport. After completing our passport and customs procedures to board Pegasus Airlines flight PC 1742, we begin our return journey.
Ankara
We part ways after our arrival at Esenboğa Airport in the morning, to meet again in another travel itinerary.
